Important information about blood transfusion practice and safety

Prior to the 20th Century, blood was thought to be the same for everyone. This led to frequent deaths during and following transfusions of blood. Today it is known that blood is not the same and that there are many different blood types.

The British Committee for Standards in haematology (BCSh) alongside the Department of Health (Dh) and ShOT reports, have recommended that every healthcare practitioner involved in the blood transfusion process should receive appropriate training in relation to legislation, administration and management of transfusions.  This course therefore covers key information relating to Blood Transfusion and can be used as either a refresher, or for people wishing to gain a better understanding of the following areas relating to Blood Transfusion:
