End of Life Care

End of Life Care

Helping professionals gain a thorugh understanding of the principles behind End of Life Care

There are many different aspects to the provision of healthcare and these are applicable to a variety of healthcare environments. Each aspect needs to be delivered with the right attitude, knowledge and skills in order to support a person, their family and friends during difficult and challenging periods.

One such element is End of Life Care (EoLC) which refers to the care given to a person who is at (or is approaching) the end of their life and being able to provide high quality care is essential whilst working in this area of healthcare. It can be a rewarding career and is particularly important because it can make the difference between a person experiencing “a good death” or “a bad death”.

This comprehensive course therefore intends to highlight the key information associated with this topic dealing with information relevant at both Level 2 and Level 3, specifically:

  • Working in End of Life Care
  • Understanding Communication in End of Life Care
  • Assessment and Care Planning
  • Person Centred Approaches to End of Life Care
  • Providing Support to Manage Pain and Discomfort
  • End of Life Care and Dementia
  • The Role of the healthcare Worker in End of Life Care at Time of Death
  • Understanding Loss and Grief in End of Life Care

Structuring the course in this way helps to ensure that healthcare professionals not only gain a basic understanding of the principles behind End of Life Care, but also that this basic information is further enhanced by specific topics being explained in greater detail.

In contrast to classes attended regarding child protection, this e-learning course was more in-depth, accessible, and compulsory engagement required due to test . Attended classes can have a passive attendance quality as there is no test, so that you can see people passing the time on their mobile phones!!

The e-learning course - the flow chart was useful for people like me (A&E junior nurse) as well as the case study. This will influence my practice.
