Principles of First Aid - Adults and Children

Principles of First Aid - Adults and Children

Ideal for anyone wanting to better understand the Principles of First Aid that can help to save lives

This course will help to ensure you have sufficient information about the Principles of First Aid and Basic Life Support and if required, also help pave the way for becoming an appointed person.

An appointed person's role is one that includes looking after the first aid equipment and facilities and calling out emergency services when required. They can also provide emergency cover (not annual leave) within their role and also bring an additional level of competence when the first-aider is absent (due to unforeseen circumstances).

This course is not only suitable for professionals but is also ideal for parents, grandparents and families, as an understanding of First Aid and Basic Life Support can help to save lives!

The aims of this programme are therefore to:

  • provide individuals with the knowledge required when providing first aid to adults and children prior to the arrival of a first aider or the emergency services.
  • enable individuals to understand the procedures for assessment at the scene.
  • facilitate individuals understanding of the essential basic first aid and life-saving information.

The course content therefore covers:

  • Health & Safety (first Aid) regulations
  • Accident/incident recording & reporting
  • Treatment priorities
  • CPR & CPR guidelines
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Bleeding
  • Poisons
  • Spinal injuries/bone injuries
  • Falls/head injuries
  • Burns, scalds including chemical burns

In contrast to classes attended regarding child protection, this e-learning course was more in-depth, accessible, and compulsory engagement required due to test . Attended classes can have a passive attendance quality as there is no test, so that you can see people passing the time on their mobile phones!!

The e-learning course - the flow chart was useful for people like me (A&E junior nurse) as well as the case study. This will influence my practice.
