This course aims to offer those working with children and young people not only sufficient information about the Principles of First Aid for children and Basic Life Support but also pave the way for becoming an appointed person. An appointed person's role is one that includes looking after the first aid requirements, equipment and facilities and for ensuring emergency services are called as and when required. They can also provide emergency cover (not annual leave) within their role and bring an additional level of competence when the first-aider is absent (due to unforeseen circumstances).

This course is not only suitable for professionals but is also ideal for parents, grandparents and families, as an understanding of First Aid and Basic Life Support can help to save lives!

The aims of this programme are therefore to:

  • provide individuals with the knowledge required when providing first aid to children prior to the arrival of a first aider or the emergency services.
  • enable individuals to understand the procedures for assessment at the scene.
  • facilitate individuals understanding of the essential basic first aid facts and life-saving information.
