Understanding Epilepsy

Understanding Epilepsy

Helping individuals to understand epilepsy as the appropriate responses can be critical.

In the UK today there are more than 600,000 people who have epilepsy and are likely to have seizures throughout their lifetime and it is estimated that of these, there are around 60,000 children who suffer from the condition.

For some people, developing epilepsy can happen for no known reason and doctors may not be able to explain why. For others, where epilepsy occurs later in life, doctors may be able to find the cause more easily.

Those who work in different environments or who may come into contact with those who suffer from epilepsy will benefit greatly from understanding the condition, whether professionally or socially, as the appropriate responses can be critical. As a result, this course aims to consider the main factors that surround epilepsy and look at the background to the condition, epilepsy itself, treatment and considerations when dealing with a person having a seizure.
