Across the UK, Health and Safety remains a hugely important topic for those working in all business environments. Both employers and employees have health and safety responsibilities but some employees who hold more senior positions may have additional health and safety responsibilities which can differ, depending on each person’s role.

This Level 3 course is aimed at anyone likely to take a lead on health and safety matters or those who may have greater health and safety responsibilities. As a result, it intends to put those with health and safety responsibilities in a better position to manage and explain health and safety requirements, as they may not only need to oversee internal requirements, but they may also need to liaise with external bodies or inspectors (as applicable).

The topics covered in this course are therefore:

  • Current legal requirements for health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Benefits of using a safety management system
  • Risk assessment and its application
  • Risks and ways to apply controls for common workplace hazards
  • Managing Health & safety and the effects of accidents and incidents

In addition (and as part of various completed sections), those undertaking the course are offered the opportunity to think about the topics covered in terms of their own role, their colleagues and the work environment itself. Thinking about the topics covered in this way is important, as it helps to ensure that information is considered and applied directly to each workplace. It is a process often referred to as Reflective Practice and is likely to be different for each person as workplaces are different. To support this, those completing the course can use the CPD tool (available from each user's Red Rock dashboard) to record the additional reflective practice completed but as a starting point, a notional 30 minutes has been allocated for this process.
