In the second of this 4 part Dementia suite, you will learn the best ways to communicate with people with a form of dementia to ensure that they feel comfortable in their surroundings. Your listening skills are important and you will also learn the importance of relationships and teamwork when supporting a person with dementia.

This programme works well as a standalone course or as part of the Dementia suite and covers the following topics:

  • understand the meaning of a person centred approach to supporting people with dementia
  • understand the meaning, importance and application of life history work
  • understand the importance of relationships and teamwork
  • understand how to communicate positively and effectively with a person with dementia

We are acutely aware that this is an emotive subject for a lot of people who may be looking after people with a form of dementia and we hope that it promotes an improved understanding of the various aspects of the condition and the potential effects different forms of dementia have on people and the reasons why.

We also hope that this information will help those looking after people with a form of dementia by re-enforcing existing thought processes and good practice or possibly helping to generate some new ideas that could be useful.
