Important information about Mental Capacity and the updated Liberty Protection Safeguards

In 2019, legislation surrounding the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards that was contained in the Mental Capacity Act 2005 was replaced by a new scheme called the Liberty Protection Safeguards. As a result, the course previously available from Red Rock titled ‘Introduction to the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards’ has been updated to cover relevant changes under the Liberty Protection Safeguards.

Whilst not planned to be fully implemented until Spring 2020, key information about the changes have been covered with the various new processes referenced (in advance of any new codes of practice that may also help manage the change). As final elements are still to be confirmed, further updates may be made as we draw nearer the implementation date of Spring 2020 (as and if required).
